The manufacturing industry can pose a range of hazards to workers, depending on the specific type of manufacturing involved. 

 

The production of plastic in the industry typically involves the following steps:

 

  1. Raw material selection: The first step in making plastic is selecting the raw materials.
  2. Polymerisation: The selected raw materials are then subjected to polymerisation, which involves chemically bonding the individual molecules together to create long chains of polymers. This process can be carried out in several ways, such as by using heat, pressure, or a catalyst.
  • Additives: After polymerisation, various additives are added to the polymer to modify its properties, such as color, strength and flexibility. These additives can include pigments, stabilisers, and plasticisers.
  1. Processing: Once the plastic material has been produced and the additives have been added, it can be processed into the desired shape. This can be done through a variety of methods such as injection molding, blow molding, extrusion, or thermoforming.
  2. Quality Control: Finally, the finished plastic products are subjected to quality control testing to ensure that they meet the required specifications and standards.

 

Based on the above processes, perform the following tasks:

 

  • Identify the hazards associated with each step of the plastic manufacturing process.
  • Propose the control measures for each of the identifiedy hazards.
  • Prepare ONE (1) E-safe operating procedure (E-SOP) which include all the processes.

Case I
BRICS is a new Organization investing in Marble Production in Ethiopia. The CEO and owner of BRICS 
Company is Mrs. Hariet Obang. Five years ago, Mrs. Hariet recruited 500 employees based on the 
strategic plan of the Company and the number of employees has now declined to 300. The cause for 
employee turnover is said to be lack clear compensation schemes as compared to other industries. This 
has caused a continuous decrease in performance and also marble production particularly in the last six 
months.
The CEO, Mrs. Hariet decided to undertake some reform to enhance performance and productivity 
basically by undertaking some changes in the areas of Human Resource. The CEO’s assumption is that 
she has few employees while she has failed to recruit new employees because of scarcity in the market. 
She is also intending to have included Human Resources into Organizational Plan and align with 
Organizational Strategy. 
However, unless she takes some measure in the coming few weeks she is going to be in trouble in terms 
of productivity and performance.
Based on the above case, advice Mrs. Hariet Obang in the following areas (5 Marks each):
1. Advice Mrs. Hariet as to how she can cope up the gap between decreasing employee, Scarcity in 
the market and highly affected performance and production?
2. Some people told Mrs. Hariet she has to open the vacant positions such as Drivers, Cashiers, and 
Accountants and so on to foreign citizens as scarcity is intense. What do you advice her based on 
Ethiopian HR Laws?

3. An expert in the area complains that the employee turnover is caused by the compensation 
scheme and performance appraisal put in place. What do you think are actual factors that 
caused employee dissatisfaction in both cases? 
4. In Order to solve the above said discrepancy, Harriet approach and asked you to find out the 
basic cases of the challenge as the problem started just in the first year of the establishment of 
the Company. What could possibly be the cause(s)?

Assume that you are an HR manager in an Organization in Ethiopia. Assume also that there are excess 
employees in your Organization while the market is also good in accessing better employees. The CEO 
of the Organization in which you are working asked the middle manager to come up with an 
assessment that can enable him adjust the discrepancy created. 
If the HR middle Manager (the one assignment is given) in your Organization comes to you for pieces of 
advices as to how to go about it, what can you say to this manager? Tell him detailed information 
considering that you have prepared the said assessment report.Instruction
