Wireless - network that uses different kinds of low energy radiation below the visible light spectrum. Pan - personal area network, networks spanning a few cm to several meters. Ban - body area network, typically used as pan for wearables. Lan - local area network, network spanning room, floor or building. Wan - wide area network, network covering states, countries or the world. Multiplexing - sending multiple signals over one medium. Server - stores network software and user files. Switch - collection point for wires connecting workstations on lan. Router - connection device between lan and wan. Modem - interface with service provider to translate from transmission protocol to protocol router understands. Data comms and protocols - the transfer of digital or analog data using digital or analog signals following predefined standards.
