Couple dances originated in europe, not common in many cultures: wodaabe people: arranged marriage but women could change husbands. Men dance (supposed to be tall and beautiful), women choose: hungarian: girls only and guys only dances, flamenco started with gypsies, settled in spain, and expanded from there. Partner dances: multiple partners in one dance or single partner throughout the whole dance: waltz: smooth, closed position (hand on waist of woman and hand on shoulder of man), triple time. Earliest were animal imitation dances mostly done by hunters.
