Document Summary

Concept of drugs phenocopying synthetically lethal mutation (lynparza) Binding of tf"s to gene to produce product. If both bind product produced, if either one binds then product produced. A/- b/b 3 (one bound, phenotype produced; different than a/a b/- need biochemical assay to tell) a/a b/- 3 (one bound, same as above) a/a b/b 0 (dead because binding is needed for survival of organism) If we can inhibit parp1, we can prevent cancer cells from dividing. Lynparza inhibits parp1 therefore has potential to help reduce cancer cell growth in cells with mutant brca1/brca2 genes. This only works because parp1 and brca are in the same biosynthetic pathway. Monoecious: having both male and female reproductive organs (plants and invertebrates) Dioecious: when plants/organisms produce male and female versions. Heterogametic: xy, represents having two types of gametes that result in sex chromosomes. Homogametic: xx, represents having two of the same type of gametes that result in sex chromosomes.
