PSY344H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Polygraph, Sweat Gland, Psychophysiology
Document Summary
5/6 can tell who is telling the truth. Respiration: subjects breathing is measured and monitored with pneumographic tube placed around the upper and lower torso. Galvic skin response: also known as electro dermal activity and most commonly as sweat gland activity. Cardio vascular activity motion: subjects blood pressure is monitored via cardio cuff placed on the upper arm. Motion: subject is seated on a motion sensing pad to ensure that they remain still during examination and to detect possible countermeasures. The principle is the fight or flight syndrome. Polygraph: you cannot control what is going inside, if you are lying you will have that sweat, high heart rate. In test: final review of questions, demonstration examination to adjust the instrument to subjects homeostasis, which will relax the truthful and stimulate the deceptive subject, data collection. Upon completion the examiner evaluates the results, which usually takes 10-15 minutes.
