PSY340H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Depressive Personality Disorder, Paranoid Personality Disorder, Schizoid Personality Disorder
Document Summary
You can have more than one disorder, but there is no axis anymore. No axial system anymore, there is just diagnosis. The personality disorders remain, and are still acknowledged. Extreme patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving (personality traits) that deviate from a persons culture. Listed on axis 2 of the dsm 4. Often ego-syntonic: person may not see a problem, most of the time the person with the disorder does not see it as a problem this is who i am. Begin early in life and remain stable: not contextual transient. 10 disorders organized into 3 clusters: cluster a: odd or eccentric. Schizophrenia (for most people) comes and goes, this doesn"t, it remains: cluster b: dramatic, emotional, or erratic. Antisocial, borderline, histrionic, and narcissistic: cluster c: anxious or fearful. Interprets actions of others as deliberately demeaning/ threatening. Seem to be missing the human part": they can interact with other people, they just choose not to, no need for sexual relationships.
