ZOO 3050 Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Rhob, Ephrin, Neural Crest
Document Summary
Cardiac ncc: migrate very clearly through the pharyngeal arches, areas that contribute to the gill formation, facial nerve development, jaw structures, cardiac ncc originate in a region of somites 1-3. Involved in formation of the blood vessels: aorta, pulmonary artery, etc. Can take cells and place them in an area of the embryo of the chicken from the quail. Start migrating and at the correct stage you can use an antibody to detect them. Only cells you can detect are quail specific. Useful to detect proteins but are also species-specific. 2 hypotheses: variety of the nc is conserved in certain groups and potentially present in another group. Migratory nc-like cells in tunicates: here they found the migratory cell population. If there is a neural crest in any vertebrate the cells have to move around. Migratory cells express ncc markers: can see what genes are expressed by migratory cells.
