Monarch butterfly: feed on plant called milkweed (toxic to other insects, weed causes glycoside, use for their own protection, predators learn to avoid them due to the monarchs being filled with this milkweed. Flowering plants: evolved about 125 million years ago. Fig wasp: associated with fig trees; have a long ovipositor: obligate mutualism, essential for reproduction for both parties. Ant: protects plant from pathogens, itself gets juices from plant. Darwin"s orchid: darwin predicted that there must be some sort of insect that has an organ (cid:523)nectory(cid:524) that"s super long. Spiracles: openings on the body of the insect: opens up to allow oxygen into body and to rid of co2. Heart: pumps vigorously; goes to arteries- heomocoal- vessel: heart has a structure called ostis (equivalent to valves in humans but many more of them; to prevent blood flowing back into heart) Tracheoles: viscosity issue: smaller diameter = higher viscosity of fluid.
