Status on job description relates to overtime and if it is allowed. Job summary could be used to communicate what the job is all about when advertising for the position. Performs other duties as assigned can be used in the job duties to prevent future claims of constructive dismissal. Job description can be used a defence for human rights allegations. Uses of job analysis: orientation of new employee, work re-design, recruiting and selection, compensation, training needs, setting performance standards, career planning, establish a bona fide occupational requirement. Midterm exam: focus on class materials, slides, notes, handouts, textbook (1,3,4) all applicable for exam. The exam is 4 questions with 2 case studies (applying principles), the other ones are longer answer questions. Competencies = the knowledge, skills, abilities, attitude, and behaviours that identify a successful employee. This is more forward looking because as job change these abilities etc. will allow the candidate to move forward with the job.
