Performs other duties as assigned can be used in the job duties to prevent future claims of constructive dismissal. Job description can be used a defence for human rights allegations. Uses of job analysis: orientation of new employee, work re-design, recruiting and selection, compensation, training needs, setting performance standards, career planning, establish a bona fide occupational requirement. Midterm exam: focus on class materials, slides, notes, handouts, textbook (1,3,4) all applicable for exam. The exam is 4 questions with 2 case studies (applying principles), the other ones are longer answer questions. Competencies = the knowledge, skills, abilities, attitude, and behaviours that identify a successful employee. This is more forward looking because as job change these abilities etc. will allow the candidate to move forward with the job.
