In which we consider ict as a product. Process: a series of actions that produce something or that lead to a particular result. Something spurs action (you feel cold in your room= input), so you either turn up the thermostat, or put on a sweater or close an open window (= process). From this process action, some output is produced (something is changed more warmth or less cold but in the end, you feel more comfortable). Improvement is measures at the margins: whether the input is less costly or less voluminous, or the output is better, arrives more quickly, or is more plentiful. O(cid:373)ethi(cid:374)g a(cid:272)ts as a(cid:374) i(cid:374)put (cid:894)p(cid:396)ofits a(cid:396)e falling; employees are calling in sick; a competitor releases a new product). This input bubbles through the organization until its recognized by somebody or some monitoring process (a sensor), causing someone or some group to start mounting a response.
